Area Law Enforcement
Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers say they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then discovered numerous other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say preliminary tests indicate the liquid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; authorities are not yet aware of any harm in association with the incident," they commented.
City officials stated they were trying "to solve the case" and have asked to the residents for information.
An important political figure said the vandalism left him stunned and had to be resolved promptly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
